Your JHED ID was sent by email to you from the Homewood Campus Office of the Registrar. The source of the email is "webregistration@jh.edu." The email includes directions for activation.

For assistance with navigating Blackboard, or using other course technologies, contact your instructor or teaching assistant. You will find contact information on the homepage of your course in Blackboard.
Each course has a prepared a short, orientation video to introduce you to using Blackboard for summer learning. You can find the video on the homepage of our courses.
The university has posted Blackboard resources for getting started and using Blackboard.
If you or your instructor discover that you do not have access to your course as the result of a registration problem, you should contact the Office of Summer & Intersession Programs by emailing summer@jhu.edu. The admissions and enrollment team will investigate and troubleshoot the problem and try to resolve your registration as quickly as possible.
Your JHED is your logon ID for Hopkins academic and administrative systems. It is a series of letters and numbers that, when used with a password, provides access to Hopkins networked resources, such as BlackBoard, Microsoft 365, library resources, etc.
A JHED is assigned at the time your course selection(s) are registered in the Student Information System. You are eligible for a JHED when you have accepted the offer for summer enrollment and you have made the required account deposit. Your JHED will become inactive if you do not complete payment for your course or program by the required date.

Blackboard Support

If your name is not on the course roster, you are not registered for the class. Since registration in a course is necessary for Blackboard class access, you will not find your intended class available to you when you logon.

sing JHU Blackboard does not require installation of any software on your computer. Blackboard is a web-based learning management system, using the internet and any popular web browser.
Current browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Edge should work with Blackboard. If you have difficulties with operating Blackboard,
  • Make sure your browser is up-to-date.
  • Try changing browsers before seeking technical support.

Your class may use Zoom to facilitate weekly, synchronous office hours, student presentations, or group projects.

Your JHU Microsoft 365 account includes Outlook, and can read your official JHU email. Your JHU email address is the address used by the university for important billing, course, and Blackboard notifications and communications.

Our VPN provides a secure connection to Johns Hopkins University (JHU) networks when off-campus. The VPN can be used to connect from home or a remote location to access applications, websites, and files, that are only available when on Hopkins networks.
The VPN is not needed to access Email via Outlook Web Access, Virtual Desktop, SharePoint, or Office 365 applications.

Panopto is a cloud-based video sharing platform that captures, stores, and shares video, screen content, and audio. Faculty may request that you use Panopto to complete assignments.

VoiceThread is web-based presentation software that allows users to create and share interactive multimedia slideshows. VoiceThread presentations are used to showcase audio, video, images, and documents while allowing users to comment on them in a variety of different ways. The result is a digital conversation that can be easily shared with individuals, groups, and/or embedded into different websites, including Blackboard, the learning management system used here at Johns Hopkins.

Student Services

"SIS" stands for the JHU Student Information System, and is the enterprise management platform for student records, financials, and registration. Access to SIS is permitted when logging on with a JHED and password.
If you do not attend Johns Hopkins in the fall & spring, course registration is not included in your SIS access profile. Contact the Office of Summer & Intersession programs for registration. All other SIS functions, such as student accounts, schedules, etc., are permitted.

The Student Information System (SIS) permits students to set up, edit, or delete an Authorized User. As a student, you can select the amount of information the authorized user can see in your SIS account. The Authorized User will only see the selected areas and will see them just as the student sees them.
