Writing Bootcamp: The College Application Personal Statement

You have everything working for you: your grades are strong, you did well on the SAT, and your letters of recommendation sing your praises.  Now, you need to craft a personal statement that shows your dream school who you are and why you would be right at home on that campus.

Writing a strong statement, tailored to your personality and goals, can be a challenge, and many college applicants fail to describe their strengths in their essays.  With guidance from a Johns Hopkins writing instructor, you can learn to present your best self.

Discover Your Voice
Join other high achieving students this summer in writing a first draft of your college application personal statement.  Together, you will engage in tried and true pre-writing, composition, and editing exercises that help uncover what is special about you and get it on paper.

Don’t Struggle…Engage
Everyone needs a little assistance in writing with clarity and purpose. Your summer composition course will be led by a Johns Hopkins writing instructor, with experience helping young writers produce their best work. In a warm and supportive environment, you will produce a first-draft of your personal statement, suitable for any college or university in your sights.
